The Power of Financial Independence for Women

Redefining Success

Before succeeding as a wealth management senior executive and founder, Tuula Jalasjaa started out as a philosophy student. She completed her undergraduate degree and spent years exploring the world – traveling through Australia, Southeast Asia, and studying in France and Sweden. But eventually, Tuula discovered her true calling in international finance. Becoming an advocate for financial empowerment for women turned out to be her contribution to closing the gender gap in wealth management.

Her journey into banking began as she joined Scotiabank, Canada’s most international bank, where she built an impressive career spanning over two decades. Armed with an International MBA from York University – Schulich School of Business and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, Tuula rose to Vice President. She spearheaded growth initiatives across Asia and Latin America.

Yet despite her success, Tuula recognised a critical gap in financial literacy among women. She observed that many women defer financial decision-making to their partners. In doing so, they were missing opportunities for independence and confidence in managing their own wealth. It was this realisation that inspired her to make a significant switch in her career. After 25 years in corporate finance, Tuula founded The Women’s Collection, a non-profit dedicated to advancing financial education and confidence, with a focus on supporting women’s empowerment.

There are no bad questions when it comes to inquiring about how to achieve your own financial wellness,” Tuula emphasises. Through the organisation’s website, she provides podcasts, articles, and budgeting tools designed specifically for women. Her mission extends further – it’s about enabling women to create legacies for their families while gaining financial independence and security.

As a passionate advocate for diversity in business, Tuula continues mentoring emerging leaders and challenging the status quo. She believes young women entering finance should understand that “the financial industry has a huge demand for talented individuals, especially women. Whether in financial planning, portfolio management, or investment strategy, there are endless opportunities to make an impact.”

Today: The Work Continues

Currently, Tuula Jalasjaa serves as Acting CEO for a banking and wealth management firm in the Cayman Islands while maintaining Board Director roles at WealthOne Bank in Canada, where she chairs the HR and Governance committee. Her consulting company, TF Global Inc., provides wealth management strategy and advisory services across Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean.

Since founding The Women’s Collection in 2018, Tuula has built a platform that addresses financial literacy among women. Her work extends throughout the Caribbean, where she collaborates with senior leaders to shape wealth management strategy in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and beyond, with particular emphasis on better serving female investors across all segments.

Tuula’s expertise spans investment management, risk management, and leadership – skills honed through her extensive international experience. Her passion for alternative investment strategies and private equity continues to drive innovation in her current roles. Looking forward, she is exploring the possibility of pursuing a PhD in women and finance.

Her parting wisdom to the next generation: “Never underestimate the power of compounding. Start investing early, stay informed, and take control of your own financial future.
