Growing Up with Giants
Divya Dewan’s journey to becoming a role model began long before she knew what that meant. Raised in India by what she calls “a tribe of musicians” and a “clan of female founders”, she learned early that excellence wasn’t just about talent – it was about dedication and mastery.
At just 10 years old, Divya joined the Mozart Choir for Peace, a touring ensemble that brought together young singers from Europe and India to learn and perform classical music. Watching two world-class musician-directors lead with precision and passion left an indelible mark. “It really had an impact,” she recalls. “It taught me what it means to aim for mastery.”
But her most powerful role models were closer to home. Both her grandmothers were founders – one launching an export business before even completing college, which grew into the family legacy. Having these strong female role models was transformative for Divya. As she puts it, “It is hard to be what you cannot see.”
These experiences shaped the mindset coaching work she would later develop. “Something I have applied in my life before I started offering it to other people around me,” Divya explains. She believes mindset is the story you tell yourself – one that creates your persona and determines how you show up in the world.
Working primarily with millennials and Gen Z, Divya challenges them to reframe their approach to success. “The way you measure success changes the way you show up to situations, from the boardroom to the classroom and beyond,” she says. Instead of asking “How can I gain recognition?” she encourages people to ask “How can I make an impact?”
Her advice for those struggling with imposter syndrome? “Start from a place of strength. Locate and create inspiring role models and at the same time detox from limiting beliefs.” And crucially: share your new narrative. “The more you share it, the more it reinforces your belief in yourself. Find your style, find your story, and find your strength.”
